Allow me to introduce you to two ultrasonic devices: Dog Off, by Lentek and Dazer from K-II Ent., both produce an ultrasonic tone intended to deter, or train, dogs. This particular product page is a sell sheet for Dog Off, so for the specifics on Dazer click to that page. I've used both products and my choice, hands down, is Dazer. You should know up front that Dazer is the original patented device (often used by professionals), whereas Dog Off is essentially a copy cat product that works reasonably well and employs additional features such as a built-in flashlight and audible alarm.

    ... the manufacturer states the ultrasonic tone may be heard at up to 50 feet away and I know from experience that such devices are most effective within 20 feet - the closer the better. Just because the dog hears it , doesn't mean it will be effective. Further, the age, temperament and breed of dog are all factors. Remember, never run from an aggressive dog and avoid eye contact.In other words, don't behave like prey and don't challenge a dominant dog.

    Dog Off has a personal alarm that can be manually pressed or activated by a pull pin. The wrist strap is not useful for purely carrying, rather it will assist in triggering the personal alarm by dislodging the units emergency pull pin (the pull pin dislodges easily so be careful). The built in light is handy for measuring the battery level and of course for a some illumination.

    My overall opinion? Dog Off is reasonably well made (made in China) and if you have need of a personal alarm and a small light in addition to the ultrasonic feature this product is useful. But, if you are looking for a purely ultrasonic device that is sturdier and better suited for repeated outdoor use have a look at DAZER, it's made domestically,been on the market for 15 years and is sold worldwide.In use by meter readers, postal workers etc. .
