... Motion activated, Stay Away may be used with cats and dogs. In my experience Stay Away is highly effective on cats of all types, but sometimes dogs are not quite so bothered by the sudden spray ( it's possible that a young , playful dog may make sport of it and play with the device). The spray has an adjustable height angle to accommodate tall and short animals for accurate effect. The reinforcement tone may be set to combine with the pressurized spray, tone only or fully off position. Stay Away is the ideal sentry: I've often employed the device to effectively protect various spaces and items from destructive cat behaviour around our house. Area specific, Stay Away's corrective spray has a specific, isolated reach so is ideal for targeting a specific spot, compared to an ultrasonic device ( i.e. CatStop,) which has a far reaching effect and will deter a cat from an entire room when triggered. Some specific , isolated trouble spots could be: a male cat spraying in a specific spot; cat clawing a sofa edge; dog or cat scratching a door or weather stripping; cat or dog invading a counter top. Stay Away placed at these specific problem areas will, in most cases, quickly end the problem. Training sequence: For the first few days use the sound/spray mode: a tone and spray will trigger simultaneously when the motion detector senses movement. Once your pet learns to associate the warning tone with the spray, switch to tone only mode to conserve compressed air: just the tone will deter your cat or dog. Following this, merely the presence of the device itself will cause your pet to avoid the forbidden spot, so go ahead and turn both tone and spray off if you like. Helpful tips:Has adjustable detection angle and spray angle but if you find that the StayAway has trouble seeing your pet, try raising it up slightly by sitting it on a book. Turn Stay Away toward a wall or corner to guard a specific , small area to avoid false triggering.
