San Francisco, CA - February 21, 2002 - Keys To Achievement Foundation, a non-profit organization devoted to providing all children with the opportunity of music keyboard instruction, announces an agreement with Adventus, Inc., a leading music software development and publishing company, to collaborate on the development of a new and unique interactive keyboard instruction software program that will be at the core of the Keys To Achievement public school music education initiative. Elementary schools from Los Angeles, San Diego and Oakland Unified School Districts will launch the K-2nd grade program next fall.
"Studies indicate that learning to play a keyboard during early years (5-7) predisposes students to much better results in math and science, and results in improved attitude and behavior towards school in general."
Keys To Achievement Foundation, founded in the fall of 2000 with the goal of enhancing every child's cognitive and social development through an effective and affordable early-years music keyboard instruction program in the nation's public schools, has a Board of Advisors which includes musicians Pierre Boulez, Steve Reich, Peter Serkin, Andre Watts (and prior to his death, Isaac Stern), education researchers Dr. James Catterall and Dr. Kenneth Ford, and the chief executives of Yamaha Corp. of America, Logitech and Burrill & Co.
Founder and President David Arden has been a pedagogical innovator in the area of early-years music education for 25 years. He was Assistant Professor at the University of California at San Diego and is the founder and Director of the New School of Piano, established in San Francisco in 1985. He is the author of "Creative Music-Making At The Piano", an instructional book for preschool age children. Mr. Arden is also an award-winning concert pianist and recording artist. He has received the Kranichsteiner Prize at Darmstadt, First Prize at the Gaudeamus International Competition, and was a Prizewinner in the Carnegie Hall International Competition for American Music. He has recorded for the Musica Magna, New Albion, CRI and KOCH International labels.
Adventus Incorporated, Nova Scotia, Canada, is a world-leading publisher of interactive music learning software.
