My personal review of Scarecrow:First impressions are important! Opening the box, I'm immediately impressed. Scarecrow garden sprinkler is made from durable, ABS plastic, the fittings, moving parts and screw threads are all solid and heavy gauge. This motion activated garden sentry is obviously made to be inserted in the ground and left to do a job. Although it's lightweight, there's nothing hollow, chincy or frail about it. Scarecrow is no run of the mill, garden variety (excuse the pun) sprinkler!  This garden sentry uses passive infrared technology to "see" objects and will detect animals ranging from deer to squirrels by detecting temperature differences between animals and vegetation, then notices changes when movement occurs. The unit incorporates "smart electronics" to compensate for false activations most noticeable during windy conditions. Scarecrow uses short bursts of water, and pauses between activations to startle and confound animals.

I don't have a problem with deer etc., in our flower garden so I haven't personally tested Scarecrow but neighbors have, it works!
