The glossy cover features a painting of the West Hants museum done by renowned artist Audrey Goucher-Millet. The museum itself, houses the centuries old cook books referenced for the publication. Personally, I found it intriguing to re-create recipes that are centuries old and written just as they were hundreds of years ago. The book is pleasantly interspersed with sketches of actual museum pieces once used for cooking and household items used by women of the day. There are humorous and informative historical anecdotes, and glossy, full page historical photos round out the "settler like" ambiance exuded by this unique cook book.In fact, aside from unique recipes the book makes for very intersting historical reading too! The book itself measures 6in x 9in, is 122 pages and includes a full range of great colonial recipes including: breads, desserts, vegetables, salads, fish, meat and more. There is even a section of old Acadian recipes! |
